Day 7 - Two Bozo's in Gozo
It had to be said....hehehe. Anyway before we start, a little story about the night before. Whilst enjoying a bottle of the local red - Medina Merlot and some Braggioli for dinner we engaged with the blokes sitting next us. Vince introduced himself to us and began to tell us about life in Malta and then leaning in, told us about his beginnings. "I was the biggest pimp in Valletta" he says, "my nickname is Concorde, coz I used to have so many girls". He was a noble man apparently, did it to raise and support his family! Whether true or not it made an interesting tale. He then offered Gina a job....no just kidding!
Anyway, off to Gozo we go. A 1.5 hour bus trip to the ferry port in Cirkewwa to the ferry terminal, we cheated and caught a taxi in the interest of time. Then a short trip on the ferry to Gozo. Forget Gozo's history for a moment, much of Game of Thrones S1 was filmed here!
Once back at Valletta we walked into the start of Independence Day celebrations. Was really cool to be part of the vibe and pride around us.

Words can't describe this island. The fortified city extends to plains and valleys, limestone villages and views over the water. For a small island, Churches everywhere stand testament to Malta's intense Catholic heritage. For those who have been, the coastal villages are reminiscent of Crete, and I would say Gozo in general has the same sense of wonder as Santorini.
We got onto the HoponHopoff bus to maximise time and toured the 14km x 11km island.
The streets are medieval and all credit to the bus drivers navigating streets designed for donkey carts! Balconies feature prominently in Maltese architecture, both in history and current. Historically they represented status, today practicality.
Fishy Lampuki |
Popeye Village |
We stopped for lunch and enjoyed Lampuki, a locally caught fish, in season and plentiful.
Satisfied fat cat |
True to form, Gina fed a stray cat with scraps, I sipped on Cisk, the Maltese draught beer, and we just enjoyed how awesome life is.
