Days 11 - 12 - Trapani, Sicily
It was a dark and stormy night......
As we lay in bed thinking how we were going to scoot across town to the bus station with our suitcases during a storm. We were to make our way from Palermo to Trapani by bus, a 2 hour trip for the princely sum of €18 each. Well enough drama, it stopped raining and all was well in the world. When we arrived in Trapani it was warm and sunny, around 26 degrees.
We arrived at our accommodation, Ciuri Apartments only to find we'd booked the wrong nights! Well butter me on both sides if we were not a bit miffed at our error. No probs, with the power of the internet we found a night elsewhere to tie us over......on the other side of town!
Trapani is on the north west coast of Sicily and is a busy port city and gateway to the beautiful Egadi Islanads We arrived on a Sunday and it was pleasantly quiet. The Sicilians came out in the evening, well dressed, and ready for dinner, a gelato and a stroll. The Italians do lifestyle well
Monday we took a ferry across to Favignana, an island apparently famous for its Tuna fishing. It's a quaint island where it is about the water and the Tuna. We wandered then spent the afternoon on the beach. Gina the Dog Whisperer made a new friend. A clearly well cared for Labrador decided to join us!
To the body conscious amaongst us, move to Italy. Oversized women in under size bikinis along with oversize men in under size speedos own their look. They are out and proud, without a care what anyone else thinks! I'm thinking about staying 😎
So a few observations here in Sicily: most people dress really, really well; the pasta isn't always awesome; the gelato is always awesome; it is not as cheap as Greece; we have discovered Sicilian Cannoli. Sicilian Cannoli, Amore Mia, why haven't we met before?
What makes them different.....crisp, thick cases that crunch to the bite, ricotta cheese whipped with cream for a smooth creamy consistency, and tiny little chop chips. These little beasts are incredible and when back in Melbourne my mission is to find them......are you with me? I salivate like Pavlov's dog at the mere thought of these.
